Mini Wheelers was founded in 2016 to allow children in Doncaster to learn to ride a bike safely whilst having fun and increasing self-confidence.
Our fun, structured lessons use modern teaching methods and balance bikes as a key learning tool making learning to cycle with stabilisers a thing of the past as well as avoiding any parent and child frustration with an experience they will remember for ever, as the saying goes once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget!
We want to give as many children as possible the opportunity to discover the happiness and independence of riding a bike as well as promoting the health benefits in helping to lead an active lifestyle.
By offering professional coaching at the start of a child's cycling journey, good habits can be formed and being safe and confident on two wheels can happen from as early as 2 years old!
"Mini Wheelers is fab, my daughter learnt to ride with them and gave her confidence in herself and in such a friendly atmosphere"
Our Mission- 'To create confident, safe cyclists for now and the future!'
Andy has over 9 years experience working with children and young people in sport. After graduating with a degree in sport and exercise science in 2011 he went on to gain a teaching qualification in sport working within secondary schools in Doncaster.
2015 was a life changing year for Andy as he became a father to his daughter Evie (pictured with him holding the Tour De Yorkshire trophy) as well as leaving the field of education to take up a role as a community cycling coordinator to develop targeted schemes to get people in Doncaster active through cycling as well as training young people in cycle safety. Andy also did some media work with Welcome to Yorkshire and professional cyclist Adam Yates to promote the Yorkshire bank Bike Libraries project in Doncaster-which was on YouTube the last time we checked :)
It was in this role he discovered the need for cycling training for younger children having come across an alarming number of children stuck on bike stabilisers aged 6 + including his niece at the time (first guinea pig).
If you are involved in a Doncaster primary school you may have met Andy previously delivering the government-recognised Bikeability programme as a National standards cycling instructor equipping children with the skills and safety awareness to confidently cycle on todays roads, thus giving him a broad range of knowledge of cycle training for all ages to share with you as well as his own experiences as a cyclist.
